I have 30 charts that were created from excel and were pasted onto powerpoint slides.
It is the first time it happens to me and I checked everywhere online and I don't see any reported issues that is similar to what I have or that provide a more satisfying solution than vba code. It is correctly linked to the source (no values hard coded).
The calculations are set on automatic for the workbook. I tried setting up an other chart in the same worksheet, linked to only one simple row and this new chart has the same refreshing issue so I suspect it has to do with settings or something like that but for the life of me I can't find which settings could do this.
Instead, it fires up MSGraph, an "applet" whose sole purpose in life is to supply graphs to Power Point and other applications via OLE (Object Linking and Embedding).
For automatic updating to occur, Power Point needs to check the date of the data source of any embedded OLE objects, and for this to happen, it needs to be able to find the file that contains the original data to see if the file date/time is more recent than the date/time on the embedded copy in the PPT file.
It includes several graphs created in Power Point; each graph's datasheet is linked to an Excel file.
When the Excel file is revised, the various graphs in Power Point must reflect these changes.I think the solution lies in writing a vba in powerpoint. If you need to edit the charts then clearly you will either need to edit the underlying Excel files, or be able to edit in Power Point As you are using Power Point2007 which provides full Excel support (unlike Power Point 2003 which has a datasheet) I would Part 1 This gives you a flexible solution, except that Excel underlying each chart cannot be updated automatically via a Power Point menu Update Links command. Can any expert here offer to write this vba code to allow all the charts to be updated in powerpoint? Part 2 You can use the code below to test each whether each shape on each slide has a chart. Every time I want to see an updated version of it I have to either delete the serie and add it again or re-open the file.Another colleague came up with the same issue on a completely different computer/file/data/chart.Even though I set up the links as "Update: Automatic", I find that when I open the PP presentation, it doesn't always show the latest data from Excel.
